| Bio: | Hassan, though Ive acquired a good number of other names. Endymion, ShadowSword, and Ball'o'Cheese the foremost among them. Its better not to ask where those came from, because I hardly remember anymore. It all started one evening in August, back in '83 when Heavy Metal was coming into its own, people were avidly programing computers to crash at Y2K, and so on. Of course, the place was Nairobi, Kenya, so there wasnt much of that stuff happening out there. My dad was doing some of the programming though. Then I was born, and the world didnt notice much as a whole. My family did, understandably, mostly because it meant that my mother couldn't finish the shopping she was doing when I rudely interrupted. That's sort of the way things go. Time passed. I tried to avoid growing up -- failed -- fell over a lot, and did my best to evade useful education -- partially succeeded -- and learned how to construct horrifically long run-on sentences by abusing the hyphen and the comma; much like the one you're currently reading. Then the century changed, and they decided that they'd managed to pin enough of an education on me to let me go. So I put on the dress -- sorry, gown -- and got the bit of paper that verifies that to the world. This moment is preserved for all time in a picture of me looking pained and being given what is, in fact, an entirely empty folder. The real bit of paper was given to me later with no gown or ceremony required. Having it (the paper, not the gown) snatched from me for something like framing before I could conveniently lose it, I decided that was that and made a break for it. Being me, making a break for it took several months and a stack of college applications, but I was able to grease myself up enough to squeeze through a crack in the admissions process. So (after a shower to remove most of that necessary greasing) I jumped on a plane and hurled around the globe to a city Id never seen to engage in this alleged 'higher' education I had gotten myself into. Which turns out to have nothing to do with altitude, because it happens in a school five thousand feet lower than my non-higher education, but does come with remarkably fast internet access. So I stayed put, realising that classes were much like sleeping -- a convenient way to pass the time while waiting for the Internet Elves to produce more stuff for us to browse through and look at numbly. Then, for some reason, I was stirred to motion by a chorus of Angels (it might have just been the whimpering of a bank account, but the Angels sound a lot better, honestly) and moved into considerably cheaper housing -- at the tragic price of noticeably slower internet. And here I am. The End. Only not really. | |
